Technical Jobs: The Way to the Future for the Philippine Economy

There are so many things that have changed in the Philippines for years, especially with the way we approach our economy.  A century ago, we had relied so much on agriculture and other sources of income besides the jobs we have had now within the past decade.  For the year 2010, the main source of income or the greatest contributor for our increase in GDP is the Services sector  ( 55.1 % ) while Industry sector is only 29.9% and Agriculture is 14.9 %.

Based on this statistic, it shows that the Philippines is a Service economy. The main sector’s top source of income is through Business Process Outsourcing ( BPO ). The BPO industry has grown annually since 2006. Mostly, it is due to the increase demand on offshore call centers and some other non- voice technical services.

Many technical jobs here are those that are being outsourced. The Philippine outsourcing Services that are technical in nature include Technical Service through the phone, Information Technology services, animation, engineering, editing, programming, web designing, web hosting, and medical transcription.

BPO indeed is fast growing as an industry. As a result, technical jobs are also fast rising as means of income for many Filipino people. The Philippines is a leading country for technical jobs that are outsourced, both in the call center departments or the non-voice sectors. Outsourcing to the Philippines in Information Technology services is also growing. Examples of these services are web design, web development, software development, and application maintenance.

Animation services are also outsourced to Filipino animators who are classified as good, knowledgeable, and quality workers. There is an increased popularity of animation to be used as art and entertainment in cable Televisions as well as computer games. They are also used as educational tools, advertising methods, and graphic designs for internet content.

Medical Transcriptionists are also growing in popularity. Many nurses or nurse graduates in the Philippines go for this kind of work. These firms do mostly medical charts, physician’s notes and orders, discharge summaries, therapy/rehabilitation recommendations, and hospital and clinic reports using state-of-the-art software and equipment from the U.S.

Most top Business Processing Outsourcing  firms in the United States run in the Philippines.  The reasons why most companies in the United States choose the Philippines are due to the fact that Filipinos have excellent English speaking skills and knowledge and understanding of Western business culture. A lot of companies in Forbes 500 have taken the Philippine’s service as their chief location.  Other factors have also contributed to this: competitive labor rates, high literacy rates and stable telecommunication network and facilities.

In the Philippines, there are major destinations where Technical jobs are popular. Among them are Manila, Cebu City, Pasig City, Quezon City, and Mandaluyong City.

Most of all, Filipinos desire for a well-compensated job. Generally, technical jobs in the Philippines that are outsourced are considered high paying jobs among the Filipinos nowadays, so they would prefer them in this period and even for the years to come.
